NGC 3115 is an example of a lenticular galaxy, in Sextans. Located some 32 million light years from Earth, this galaxy is larger than the Milky Way. However, this galaxy has exhausted nearly all the gas of its acretion disc, and now there is little new star formation. Consequently, its star population is composed primarily of old stars. At its centre is a super-massive black hole, with an estimated size of one billion solar masses.

Nicknamed the Spindle Galaxy, NGC 3115 is also catalogued as Caldwell 53.
